JORNADAS DO ROVERWAY '09

E no final eram 3...

OPEN UP YOUR HEART!
IS01 - In between the mountains

Once upon a time three troll women decided to make their own independent island and started digging through the neck of the West Fjords. For a whole night those gigantic women of determination and patriotism dove their hands into the solid brown rocks, shifting the gravel to the sides, forming three narrow fjords. But despite their firm attempt, they, just as other beings, could not defy nature and the sun rose early morning, turning the trollettes into stones, -as the bodies of trolls cannot stand sunlight and will instantly turn to stones. So the West Fjords remain attached to the mainland, the three fjords close to beheading our fatherland but not succeeding.

Isafjordur is the biggest town of the West Fjords and the most isolated quarter capital. Surrounded by steep mountains the town has an intense atmosphere with surprisingly strong art culture, such as amateur theatre, entrepreneurial initiatives and music festivals.

Feel at home in this lively sailor’s town and get involved with its culture and happenings. Get to know how people have learned to live their lives under avalance protections in narrow fjords

Other possibilities during this Journey:
- Fishing
- Sailing
- Mountain Hiking

OPEN UP TO CHALLENGES!
TOR01 - Laugarvegur hiking route

There are two Laugavegur’s in Iceland. One is the main shopping street in Reykjavík, covered with cosy cafés and old shops. The other is a well-known hiking route in South Iceland, known for its incomparable nature and the wide variety of landscapes in mere 55km.

This Journey won’t be through the different trendy designers’ shops in the Capital City of Iceland, but will focus on hiking through beautiful nature.

The starting point, Landmannalaugar Pools, is a place of great geological beauty and is simply unique for all the different environmental elements and colours.

During the hike, the Tribe will get the chance to see an ice cave, make ice cream and stay in tents under the bright evening sky of the northern hemisphere.

REY03 - Mountain Range Romance

If one stands in Reykjavík and faces north, one would front a beautiful mountain range, which guards the Capital area. Mount Akrafjall and the heath Skardsheidi, who have been called the purple dreams due to their bluish colour, stand to the left. Mount Esja in the middle; most prominent of it’s peers, 914 meters tall, and to the right, the three Moskardshnukar Peaks immediately stand out, since if you view the range from Reykjavík, Moskardshnukar always seem sunny, no matter how the climate is treating you that day, due to the type of stone they’re made of, rhyolite, which is lighter in colour than the surrounding mountains.

The tribe will be staying in and around a Scout hut, under the slopes of Mount Esja and will use the possibilities that the nature and environment of the hut offer, such as:

-Strap those walking boots tightly on and hike to the top of one of the Moskardshnjukar Peaks.
-Trot down to a spectacular hidden waterfall.
-Lend a helping hand to the hut by painting a wall or building some woodwork, to give future generations of Scouts the chance to enjoy this area.
-Challenge your skin by splashing in the small brook by the hut. It’s cold but fresh!
-Hiking down the valley, taking one of the yellow (and often hydro-powered) buses to Mosfellsbaer Town and exercise your backstroke skills in the local swimming pool.
